Field of Lilies quilt by Charlotte Hickman via designerann.blogspot.com
Consider the lilies of the field,
How they grow, how they grow.
Consider the birds in the sky,
How they fly, how they fly.
Consider the sheep of His fold,
How they follow where He leads.
Though the path may wind across the mountains,
He knows the meadows where they feed.
Consider the sweet, tender children
Who must suffer on this earth.
The pains of all of them He carried
From the day of His birth.
He clothes the lilies of the field,
He feeds the lambs in His fold,
And He will heal those who trust Him,
And make their hearts as gold.
Consider the Lilies by Roger Hoffman
Dear Evan, this song was sung during sacrament today. When it was announced I almost went up to sing with the choir despite not having attended any of the practices. When you were a year and a half, Daddy and I were in a choir that was going to sing this song during a sacrament meeting. We had been to many doctors by this time and put you through many tests to determine why you weren't developing the way you should and why you weren't gaining weight. When we sang the third verse, I couldn't sing anymore. I was crying much too hard to allow words to come out of my mouth. While the author was thinking of abused children at the time of writing it, the words made me think of you. As I heard the beautiful words and music played today, I again thought of you. I thought of the many other children I know of who suffer physical pain despite the love they receive from their families.
The words are cathartic. They bring images to mind of the earth, of animals, of all of us whom the Lord loves. "He will heal those who trust Him." I'm glad I have you Evan. You are a beautiful flower in my field of life and your smile, hug and love brightens my day. I'm glad I get to witness you grow and hopefully see you fly.
