On the day of Theodore Seuss Geisel's birthday, we had a little fun. It's a great holiday to act silly and read a lot. It was lucky enough to fall on a Wednesday and since one of his books is so well titled, I decided our house needed to show a little wackiness of its own. That meant a few pictures got turned upside down, a few couches got turned around, a few chairs were flipped, some shoes placed on the wall and under table legs. I made Ryan read
Wacky Wednesday before he left for school and he found all of the wacky things throughout the book.
I even put a Seuss-esque stuffed animal in the fridge and when I picked the kids up from school, I, the driver, was in the back seat instead of the front. Ryan thought it was great.
Scott thought it was so funny that I put shoes on the wall and when I flipped our outdated family photo upside down, he smiled so big and had to show Oliver and then me and then Oliver the picture over and over. Evan didn't seem fazed by any of it. The couch wasn't in its normal spot but he was still able to sit on its edge to watch a show.
We, of course, enjoyed many Seuss oriented foods, because that's just as much fun. I made Ryan the usual green eggs and ham for breakfast. Since Wednesday is a short day at school, they came home and had
Hop on Popcorn as well as
Yertle the Turtle candies. Dinner we had roast beast sandwiches, cheese trees but more than three (broccoli in cheese sauce), and pink ink to drink like the Yink (strawberry smoothies).
We read a few formally unknown books from the library since I've misplaced our main anthology
Six by Seuss. But that meant that either I or Ryan read the following titles over the course of yesterday:
One fish two fish red fish blue fish,
One Beyond Zebra!,
I Had Trouble In Getting to SOLLA SOLLEW, and
Hunches in Bunches.
I put
The Lorax on for Evan to watch along with some high school production of
Seussical the Musical that I found on YouTube. Oliver also put on
Horton Hears a Who while Ryan and I were at Cub Scouts.
At Cub Scouts, I talked about
The Lorax which merged well with learning about recycling and composting. And ended with a fruit
Cat in the Hat kabob. And then home to finish the day with
Cat in the Hat jello parfaits and a reading of
Hooray for Diffendoofer Day!.
I'm glad there are so many great books from a great author. Full of a lot of silliness, but also full of some deep thoughts. I love this holiday!
